Our Wrap-Up Party is being held Thursday, August 23, from 1:00-3:00 at the Clarington Beech Centre (26 Beech Ave, Bowmanville). To register, you must already be registered for the Summer Reading Club.
Be sure to wear a costume!
Imagine yourself in the club this summer! Blast off into space, scare off spooky trolls, time travel into far off lands and rescue a princess or two along the way. That’s just a few of the awesome possibilities that this summer has to offer! TD Summer Reading Club is back with a summer filled with fun programs and activities that foster a love of literacy and help build reading skills. Each branch will have free weekly drop in progr
ams for children ages 3 to 12 from Tuesday, July 3rd to Friday, August 24th.
Registering for TD Summer Reading Club is free and every registered Imagineer will receive a free poster, activity book, stickers, and Durham Public Transit Ride to Read bus pass. Children are encouraged to read at least one book per week in order to earn stickers.

Ride to Read
Clarington Public Library and other public libraries in the Durham region are proud to partner with Durham Region Transit (DRT) for a third straight year! Throughout the months of July and August, members of the Summer Reading Club can ride DRT for free through the Ride to Read program.
Upon registration in the TD Summer Reading Club, children will receive stickers that turn their library cards into transit passes.

To be eligible for the Ride to Read program, children must be in elementary school (kindergarten to grade eight), and will need to register for the Summer Reading Club in both July and August to receive their transit sticker. Children 10 years of age and under must be accompanied by a fare-paying caregiver while on the bus.

Week 1: Imagine (July 3-6)
Get geared up for great activities that await you this summer with the TD Summer Reading Club and your Clarington Public Library! Pick up your invitation and try to discover the final special guest!

Week 2: Time Traveller (July 10-13) Go back in time to the days of yore! Discover historic games, toys and activities from the past! Come back in time as we learn about the First Nations and European Travelers.
Featured program: Clarington Museums & Archives on Wednesday, July 11th, 2:00 p.m. at the Bowmanville Branch. Dave from the museum will teach you about the fur trade andwhat the pioneers would have learned from the Native peoples in the area, including the skills necessary for their survival in this new land.

Week 3: Artist (July 17-20) Explore the artist in you! Learn about art and artists while discovering your own creativity.
Featured program: Visual Arts Centre of Clarington on Wednesday, July 18th, 2:00 p.m. at the Bowmanville Branch. The VAC will be joining us for a fun filled talk about being an artist and some of the things artists do and think about when making a piece of art. Participate in a fun activity, and take part in an art show! To participate in the art show, pick up a registration form at any CPL branch. Forms must be submitted by Friday July 13th. Art work must be brought to the Bowmanville Branch Tuesday July 17th to be entered into the show.

Week 4: Pirate (July 24-27) Arr, mateys! Hoist the Jolly Rodger and set sail for adventure!, yo ho ho!
Get a taste of the high seas, learn pirate lingo, play pirate games, and live the pirate life

Week 5: Ghost Buster (July 31 - August 3) Ever wanted to be a real-life ghost buster? Listen to spooky tales and learn tools of the trade. Club members will get a taste of the spooky side of things with real-life ghost stories. Join in some ghostly games and activities!
Featured program: Paranormal Research Society of Durham, on Tuesday, July 31st, 10:30 a.m., at the Newcastle Branch. Our fearless ghost busting friends will fascinate you with their tales of the truly spooky adventures.

Week 6: Builder (August 7-10) Be a builder and construct something BIG!
Featured program: Municipality of Clarington, on Wednesday, August 8th, 2:00 p.m., at the Bowmanville Branch. We will be hosting a building contest where certified building inspectors will be looking into your structures to see if they are up to code. Learn from them as they tell you all about building safety and how to make a structure safe and sound.

Week 7: Astronaut / Astronomer (August 14-17) Discover the moon, the sun, and the stars while imagining you’re an astronomer or astronaut. Featured program: Durham Region Astronomical Association, on Tuesday, August 14th, 10:30 a.m. at the Newcastle Branch. Visit our mini star lab, learn about the stars and what else is in the night sky. The Durham Region Astronomical Society will be presenting a fascinating talk about what it means to search in the sky.

Week 8: Hero (August 21-24) You could be a real life hero! Discover the heroics of firefighters and police officers in your community.
Featured programs: Clarington Emergency & Fire Services and Durham Regional Police Service on Tuesday, August 21st, 10:30 a.m., at the Newcastle Branch. Clarington Emergency & Fire Services will be teaching everyone about fire safety. Learn how to stop drop and roll and what it really means to be a firefighter. Durham Regional Police Services will be talking about safety and what being a police officer is all about.
