Take some time on this Family Literacy Day to read with your family and visit your library to borrow books! Learning happens everywhere and it's easy to make learning part of your daily life.

A Celebration of Black History and Culture

Students at Trent University's Oshawa campus have developed a very large public program to celebrate Black History Month. The program is called "It's a Great Day. A Celebration of Black History and Culture", held on Friday, February 3rd, 6.30-10:00 p.m.

The event will bring together more than 40 exhibitors/discussants, including 25 students discussing their in-course research (black culture, history, literature) and 15 community groups (activists, charities, philanthropists, artists) in a forum designed to educate, inspire, and stimulate discussion with the public. We also have a cultural performance stream integrated into the evening.

The event is open to the public and admission is free. Join the It's a Great Day! A Celebration of Black History and Culture on Friday, February 3rd, 2012, 7:00-10:00 p.m. (doors open at 6.30) at Trent University, 55 Thornton Road South, Oshawa.

Quick Flicks: Moving Movies Faster

image of Quick Flicks. This January your Library is proud to debut Quick Flicks! This new collection features high demand DVDs that may be borrowed for 3 days. They are available on a first come, first served basis, and holds cannot be placed on them.

Quick Flicks will be shelved beside the Rapids collection of high demand items near each branch's front entrance.

Keep your eyes peeled for the hottest releases and latest titles!

If there is a particular DVD you are interested in, you can search the library catalogue to place a hold on the circulating copy. You can also any Information Services Desk, call 905-623-7322, ext. 2712, or email info@clarington-library.on.ca.

Sarah Vaisler, Coorindator of Marketing and Communications, was interviewed by Christian Pritchard of daytime, "a daily lifestyle show that shines the spotlight on everything Durham Region has to offer."

OverDrive has tens of thousands of books available for loan, including romances, mysteries, non-fiction. The collection is made accessible though the Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS) and the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport's $15 Million Investment in Public Libraries.
TumbleBooks is an online collection of animated, talking picture books. Read or be read to with full audio and word highlighting.
Early literacy is an interactive experience, and one the whole family can participate in. Clarington Public Library's Ready to Read program builds the key skills that help develop reading readiness in children between birth and five years of age.
