Da Vinci was an accomplished artist and skilled scientist and you can be too! Paint to explore solubility, absorption and surface tension. Weave a colourful pattern to model climate change. Create a pneumatic creature to investigate the power of air. Discover the joy of combining science and art!

This virtual workshop includes a science kit which may be picked up at any branch in advance. You will receive an email when your kit is ready for pick up, and details for accessing the virtual workshop.

Discover what happens when science meets art! Explore perception as you use shadows, colour, motion, and light to create art from science. You’ll make a puppet, a spinning top and a kaleidoscope, as well as design your own galaxy.

Chicka-dee-dee-dee. Who was that? Play a game to discover nature sounds around us. Buzz your newly created bee around flowers to pollinate them. Investigate seeds and make a seed caterpillar that will grow over time. Notice all that nature has to offer, big and small!

This course teaches youth the fundamental skills they need to start their own babysitting service. A Red Cross certified instructor from React Right Safety Services teaches the class.

Topics include:

  • How to give appropriate care for infants, toddlers and school-aged children;
  • Dealing with basic First Aid emergencies;
  • How to recognize potential hazards;
  • What parents expect of a babysitter;
  • How to safely find customers; and
  • Rural babysitting.

Note: Bring a teddy bear to practice on!

This Canadian Safety Council course gives youth the tools and information they need to stay at home alone for short periods of time. The course is facilitated by Red Cross certified instructors from React Right Safety Services.

Topics include:

  • Looking after the house key (make a key chain);
  • Preparing healthy snacks;*
  • Walking home;
  • Appropriate activities when home alone;
  • Electrical/fire safety;
  • Basic First Aid; and
  • Problem solving (house broken into, severe weather).

*Note: A healthy snack will be prepared during this program. Please advise staff of any allergies at time of registration.

Please note that caregivers of children under the age of 10 must be present in the Library for the duration of the program.
