(New!) Children love to be bounced, tickled, and read to. Learn how the sound of your voice, the rhythm of a song, holding a book, and reading all get your child ready to read.

Talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing are the key skills and fun ways to help your child get ready to read! Developing early literacy skills makes it easier for children to read once they begin school, and helps foster a lifelong love of reading and learning!

Cost $60 ; includes participant manual.
Recommended that attendees bring a lunch or snack. 

This course teaches your teen the fundamental skills they need to start their own babysitting service. A Red Cross certified instructor from React Right Safety Services teaches the class.

Topics include:

  • How to give appropriate care for infants, toddlers and school-aged children;
  • Dealing with basic First Aid emergencies;
  • How to recognize potential hazards;
  • What parents expect of a babysitter;
  • How to safely find customers; and
  • Rural babysitting.

Note: Bring a teddy bear to practice on!

Caregivers and support staff for people with disabilities are admitted free of charge.

Presented in partnership with React Right Safety Services.

Other sessions of the Babysitting Program are offered on Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17 at the Courtice Branch and on Thursday, March 14 at the Bowmanville Branch.

Treat your baby to a relaxing massage! This five-week interactive workshop promotes infant development and bonding. Learn relaxing massage strokes for your baby that increase circulation and relax their growing muscles. All you need to bring is yourself and your baby!

Another session of this program is offered at the Courtice Branch on Thursdays, February 7th to March 7th.

Children develop speech and language skills by listening and imitating those around them, but these skills may be delayed in the case of deafness or hearing loss.

Sign up your infant for a screening if you have hearing-related concerns, and learn about the follow-up services available to your family. 

Presented in partnership with Markham Stouffville Hospital, the lead agency for the Tri-Regional Infant Hearing Program.
