Defeat Summer Brain Drain with the TD Summer Reading Club!

Avoid Summer Brain Drain and celebrate everything that makes Canada epic with the TD Summer Reading Club! Registration opens on Friday, June 1! 

Registration for the TD Summer Reading Club includes a notebook with reading challenges, activities, stickers, and online extras. You and your child can pick these up at any branch starting Tuesday, July 3 or at any branch or TD Summer Reading Club program after this date.

You can also pick up your notebook at the Canada Day Kick-Off Party on Sunday, July 1 at the Courtice Branch! 

Programs are weekly and will run from Tuesday, July 3 to Thursday, August 23. Special Epic Experiences will be jam-packed with celebratory fun and memory-making fun! View the online program calendar, or download a printable booklet!

Recommended Reads

Help your child defeat Summer Brain Drain with some of these great reads! Browse through picture books, chapter novels, and non-fiction books in both English and French. Each title is available for loan in our collection.

On the go this summer? You can still participate in the TD Summer Reading Club! Access TumbleBooks and read along with a narrated story, or check out OverDrive Kids and disappear into an enthralling tale! These travel-sized resources can keep the little ones engaged, or can be read and shared with others.

Ride to Read

TD Summer Reading Club membership required.

Summer Reading Club members can turn their Library cards into Durham Region Transit (DRT) passes and ride for free in July and August!

Transit information, including schedules, may be found on the DRT website. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by a fare-paying caregiver.

Where will reading take YOU this summer? Join us on our journey and find out! Every book read is another step on our treasure map! Large maps are on display in all branches so we can track our progress!

Fill it out our online book reporting tool each week to let us know how many books your child has read, and to help us on our journey!

 

Weekly Programs and Epic Experiences

Weekly programs will run from Monday, July 3 to Thursday, August 23. All programs and Epic Experiences are drop in except Tuesdays on the Trail; TD Summer Reading Club membership required. Program may be limited on a first-come, first-served basis due to space constraints.

Paint Peril (Bowmanville Branch, Monday, July 16 , 2:00pm, all ages)
Sling paint and make patterns with gravity by engineering a pendulum! Find out if different pendulums make different patterns
 
Summer Reading Club number, week 4.
Epic Experience:
Play with your Food (Newcastle Branch, Thursday, July 24 , 1:30pm, all ages)
Challenge your senses and become a food scientist! Mix ingredients to discover kitchen chemistry with Scientists in School!

Epic Experience:
Training Camp (Courtice Branch, Wednesday, August 1, 2:00pm, all ages)
Find out what it takes to be the ultimate athlete in a sports-challenge obstacle course with Municipality of Clarington Community Services!

Epic Experience:
Big Wheels (Courtice Branch, Wednesday, August 8 , 1:30pm, all ages)
Big Wheels is rolling back into town! Get up close with your favourite working cars, trucks, and equipment in everyone’s favourite parking lot party!

Epic Experience:
It's All About the Bass (Newcastle Branch, Tuesday, August 14, 2:00pm, all ages)
Dance with the music! Learn how you can bust a move to your own groove and dazzle on the dance floor with Spotlight Dance Company!

Movie Night (Newcastle Branch, Thursday, August 23, 7:30pm, all ages)
Celebrate the success of Summer Reading Club! Bring a blanket or chair (and maybe some snacks), and get cozy to watch a summer block buster!
