Service Interruptions due to Budget Cuts (Updated)

Service Update (June 10)

Clarington Public Library is resuming its Inter-library loan (ILLO) service through the Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS) as of Monday, June 17.

Please see our recent web post for more information.

Service Update (May 3)

Clarington Public Library's inter-branch courier will be resuming on Monday, May 6th. The inter-branch courier allows the Library to transport material between the Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle, and Orono Branches.

Holds may be picked up at your preferred local branch, and new material will be distributed throughout the system. If you have any questions about the location of your holds, please contact Information Services at 905-623-7322 x2712.

We appreciate your patience as we resume operations after the service disruption.

Please note that inter-library loans (ILLO) are still no longer available (this may be subject to change after May 31st).

Service Interruption (April 23)

The provincial government recently cut funding to the Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS) and Ontario Library Service-North (OLSN) by 50% for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. As a result of the cuts, SOLS has suspended its inter-library loan (ILLO) service until May 31st and permanently cancelled its courier service.

Clarington Public Library relies on the SOLS courier service to transport materials between branches in Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle, and Orono. The province’s funding cut results in the following service interruptions for Library members:

  • New material - The distribution of new books, audiobooks, DVDs, video games and other new material  will be delayed until further notice;
  • Holds – Material put on hold will not be transported between branches until further notice – members will be notified as to where the materials are located;
  • Interlibrary Loan - Materials requested via ILLO will no longer be available (this may be subject to change after May 31st);
  • Borrowed ILLO items should be returned as soon as possible.

Service interruptions will be in place until further notice. For more information about SOLS service cuts, please visit the SOLS website
